Cookie policy
Last updated 12 August 2026
Effective 12 August 2026. This page sits alongside our privacy policy and explains the cookies and similar technologies used on futureofkorea.com.
What a cookie is
A small text file a site or its partners store in your browser. It can be read on later requests. “Similar technologies” covers local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting signals, which we treat the same way.
What this site sets itself
Essentially nothing. Future of Korea is a static site with no accounts, no logins, no comments and no shopping basket, so we set no first-party tracking cookies. Where a consent notice is shown, it stores your choice — either in local storage or in a single first-party cookie — so you aren’t asked on every page. That one is strictly necessary and cannot be declined without breaking the notice itself.
What third parties set
| Provider | Purpose | Category | Typical lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AdSense / DoubleClick | Serving ads, frequency capping, measuring ad performance, and — with consent — personalising ads | Advertising | Session to 24 months |
| Google (consent management) | Recording your consent choice under the EU user consent policy | Strictly necessary | Up to 13 months |
| Google Analytics 4 (where enabled) | Aggregate audience measurement: which pages are read, how visitors arrive | Analytics | Up to 24 months |
| YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) | Only if you press play on an embedded video. We use the privacy-enhanced domain, so nothing is set until you interact | Media | Set by YouTube on playback |
We do not use social-network tracking pixels, retargeting pixels of our own, A/B testing tools, session recorders, or heatmaps.
Your choices
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, a consent notice appears before any non-essential cookie is set. Nothing in the advertising or analytics rows above runs until you consent. You can reopen the notice and change your mind at any time via Cookie settings in the footer.
Everywhere, you can:
- Turn off ad personalisation at Google Ads Settings — ads still appear, they just stop being tailored.
- Opt out across many vendors at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Send a Global Privacy Control signal — we honour it where our providers support it.
Blocking cookies will not break this site. Every article is readable with all cookies disabled.
Why we run ads at all
Advertising is what keeps this site free and unpaywalled. If you would rather not see personalised ads, please use the opt-out above rather than an ad blocker — non-personalised ads still fund the work.
